What does filing with the Unternehmensregister cost?

Updated: August 2026 · ~3 min read · eBilanz Fabrik (a tool, not tax advice)

In short: for a micro capital company depositing the balance sheet alone it is € 18.50 for the entry plus a € 3.00 annual fee — € 21.50 net together. The fee is levied by the register itself, not by a service provider. If you read € 45 or more elsewhere, that almost always concerns a different case.

1. Who levies the fee

Not the provider who helps you file, but the Unternehmensregister itself — directly, and regardless of who uploads the documents. It is fixed by law and not negotiable. A provider may add its own fee on top; the register's charge is unaffected.

2. The micro case: deposit

3. Why a very different number appears in many places

Guides and overviews frequently quote € 45, sometimes ranges from € 37.50 to over € 97.50. Those figures are not invented — they concern disclosure of a complete set of annual accounts, usually for a small capital company, and in part larger constellations up to consolidated accounts.

The problem is not the number but the attribution: it is often put in front of readers whose actual case is a micro deposit. A company entitled to deposit does not pay those amounts.

So the question to ask of any quoted fee is always: does it mean disclosure or deposit? Which route applies to you: Disclosure or deposit — what applies to a micro company.

4. The follow-on cost few people think about

A deposited balance sheet is not freely retrievable: third parties obtain it only on an individual chargeable request. A disclosed one is viewable by anyone through the register with no request — for many companies the real difference, and it costs nothing extra; it simply follows from the route chosen.

5. The most expensive route is not filing at all

Miss the deadline and the Bundesamt für Justiz imposes a penalty of at least € 2,500 (§ 335 HGB) — over a hundred times the entry fee, and it repeats. Details: Missed the filing deadline: the penalty procedure.

6. What eBilanz Fabrik charges for this

Nothing — because we do not offer this filing today. It is in preparation. What we do handle is the e-Bilanz to the tax office under § 5b EStG; its price is on the home page and has nothing to do with the register's fee.

Frequently asked questions

What does depositing a micro balance sheet cost?

€ 18.50 to enter the annual accounts plus a € 3.00 annual Unternehmensregister fee per calendar year — € 21.50 net together.

Why do I read € 45 or more elsewhere?

Because those figures usually concern a different case: disclosure of a complete set of annual accounts, normally for a small capital company. A micro company depositing only its balance sheet does not pay that. With any quoted fee, check whether it means disclosure or deposit.

Do I pay the fee to eBilanz Fabrik?

No. The register levies it itself and directly, regardless of who files. There is no eBilanz Fabrik price for filing with the Unternehmensregister today, because we do not offer it yet.

Is the annual fee charged every year?

It is charged per calendar year. It attaches to the register entry, not to an individual filing.

What does it cost to view a deposited balance sheet?

A deposited balance sheet is not freely retrievable. Third parties obtain it only on an individual chargeable request to the register, which levies that fee too.

What does not filing at all cost?

Considerably more. On default the Bundesamt für Justiz imposes a penalty of at least € 2,500 (§ 335 HGB) — over a hundred times the entry fee.

eBilanz Fabrik is a transmission tool and does not provide tax advice. Fee figures without guarantee; the Unternehmensregister's current fee rules govern and the register states the amounts itself. The € 18.50 / € 3.00 quoted here relate to depositing a micro balance sheet under § 326 Abs. 2 HGB. We do not currently offer filing with the Unternehmensregister.
